AI May soon record Hansard reports and committee minutes in parliament

A pilot test of a secure Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform to modernize the preparation of Hansard reports and minutes of parliamentary committee meetings was successfully conducted during a recent session of the Committee on Public Finance.

The test marked a move away from the traditional handwritten Hansard system and was carried out with the full consent of committee members, according to a statement from the Department of Communication of Parliament.

The meeting, chaired by MP Dr. Harsha de Silva, also saw the Committee on Public Finance granting approval for new regulations under the Tea (Tax and Control of Export) Act No. 16 of 1959.

Additionally, the committee discussed and approved the Bills of Exchange (Amendment) Bill, which aims to revise or repeal outdated sections of the Bills of Exchange Ordinance No. 25 of 1927.
