Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris informed the Fort Magistrate’s Court that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, along with Basil Rajapaksa and Namal Rajapaksa, had met former State Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, also known as Pillayan, while he was in custody at Batticaloa Prison following the Easter Sunday attacks.

He further told court that during the meeting, the Rajapaksas had allegedly assured Pillayan that steps would be taken to secure his bail within a week after Gotabaya Rajapaksa assumed office.
The Deputy Solicitor General made these statements based on evidence provided by Pillayan’s former private secretary, Asad Maulana.
He also informed the court that Asad Maulana’s statement had been recorded at the Sri Lankan Embassy in France, where he is currently residing.
