Agreements to raise estate workers’ daily wages scheduled for signing today

The Ministry of Plantations and Community Infrastructure has announced that agreements to increase the daily wages of estate workers will be signed today (30) with regional plantation companies.

The move follows proposals outlined in the 2026 Budget, under which the President approved raising the daily wage for estate workers to Rs. 1,750.

Under the new arrangement, the basic daily wage will increase from Rs. 1,350 to Rs. 1,550, with an additional Rs. 200 provided by the government as a daily attendance allowance.

To support this wage increase, the government has allocated Rs. 5,000 million in the 2026 Budget for its implementation.
