Adani aeeks reimbursement after renewable rnergy project cancellation

The Sri Lankan government is facing pressure to reimburse several million U.S. dollars to Adani Green Energy, following the cancellation of two proposed renewable energy projects, the Daily Mirror has reliably learned.

Adani Green Energy had planned to invest $442 million to construct wind power plants in Mannar and Pooneryn, aiming to add 350 MW to the national grid by 2025.

However, the company decided to withdraw from the projects after the newly elected National People’s Power (NPP) government sought to renegotiate and reduce the previously agreed power generation costs.

The initial agreement had been made with the previous administration, but the NPP government raised concerns over the pricing structure.

In May this year, Adani formally requested reimbursement for its initial expenses, which included research and feasibility studies conducted in coordination with Sri Lanka’s Sustainable Energy Authority (SEA).

Although the company has yet to provide a final figure, it has already paid around US$3 million to the SEA.

The Power and Energy Ministry has not yet made a decision and is currently seeking legal advice regarding the matter.

A senior official confirmed that any reimbursement would require Cabinet approval.
