Minister of Transport Bimal Ratnayake has instructed transport authorities to take strict action against poorly maintained restaurants used as stopover points for long-distance passenger buses.
According to the minister, many complaints have been received from passengers regarding unhygienic conditions, poor food quality, and inadequate facilities at certain eateries where inter-provincial buses halt during long journeys.
He directed officials to carry out immediate inspections, identify establishments failing to meet health and safety standards, and take necessary legal or administrative measures against them.
The minister further emphasized that passengers should have access to clean, safe, and reasonably priced food and rest facilities during their travels, adding that the initiative is part of broader efforts to improve public transport services and passenger welfare.
