Northern Australia is braving another day of severe storms, while parts of the country's south are battling intense heat.
Bureau of Meteorology senior meteorologist Angus Hines said wet conditions across northern Australia led to severe thunderstorms in eastern Queensland and north-west Australia.
Queensland received the most rain, with 162mm of rain in two hours and 100mm near Mackay.
Cairns Airport was drenched with 109mm of rain in one hour, bringing the total to 144mm.
North, Western Australia, the Northern Territory and Queensland are set for another hot, humid day without much change in weather patterns, Hynes said.
Hines said the Queensland coast between Townsville and Mackay would again be the epicenter and more than 200mm of fall was an "acceptable result".
