The Public Security Minister has confirmed that 58 police officers have been suspended due to involvement in drug-related offenses.
This announcement comes amid a broad crackdown on police misconduct, including cases of drug use, collusion with traffickers, bribery, and falsifying evidence.
Several officers were found to be using illegal substances such as heroin and the synthetic drug.
A constable and his driver were notably arrested for demanding an Rs. 180,000 bribe from a suspect, with threats of framing him for drug possession—further underscoring the misuse of authority by some officers.
The public security minister emphasized that internal investigations are ongoing—placing no exceptions on rank or tenure—and that any implicated personnel would face disciplinary action, including loss of pension rights where applicable.
