35th Indo–SL Maritime boundary line meeting concludes successfully

The 35th International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) meeting between the Sri Lankan and Indian Navies and Coast Guards was held on board INS Sukanya, north of Kankesanthurai, at the Indo–Sri Lanka Maritime Boundary Line.

According to the Sri Lanka Navy, the annual IMBL meeting aims to strengthen bilateral relations and explore joint strategies to address shared maritime challenges in the Indian Ocean Region.

The Sri Lankan delegation was led by Rear Admiral Buddhika Liyanagamage, Commander of the Northern Naval Area, while the Indian side was headed by Rear Admiral Satish Shenai, Flag Officer Commanding the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Naval Area.

During the discussions, both sides reviewed the progress of previous meetings and exchanged views on enhancing maritime border security. They also reaffirmed their commitment to jointly tackling maritime issues that arise along the IMBL.

The meeting was also attended by Commodore Aruna Weerasinghe, Deputy Area Commander of the North Central Naval Area, along with senior officers from the Sri Lanka Navy, Coast Guard, and India’s Defence Adviser to Sri Lanka, Captain Anand Mukundan.
