Sri Lanka Police reported that 318 individuals were arrested in connection with various cybercrime offences during 2025.
Police Media Spokesperson ASP F. U. Wootler said more than 2,000 cybercrime complaints were recorded over the year, highlighting the growing threat posed by digital crimes.
He noted that cybercriminals mainly target young people and the elderly, while individuals who have recently begun using the internet are also particularly vulnerable.
ASP Wootler urged the public to remain vigilant when using online platforms and stressed the importance of not sharing passwords, personal details, or sensitive information with unknown or unauthorised parties.
