As of 24th of November 2024, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reports that 3,065 Sri Lankan nationals are on its non-detained docket with final orders of removal.
ICE explained that not all deportations can be executed immediately due to legal hurdles, asylum claims, and logistical issues.
While the US expects countries to verify citizenship, issue travel documents, and accept repatriation flights, some nations delay the process.
ICE has identified 15 countries as uncooperative in accepting deported nationals, though Sri Lanka is not among them.
Additionally, 11 countries are considered at risk of non-compliance with repatriation efforts.
