Health experts in Sri Lanka have raised concerns over a growing number of gastritis-related cases, estimating that nearly 25% of patients seeking medical attention are now showing symptoms of the condition.
Doctors say the most common symptoms include abdominal bloating, stomach pain, indigestion and loss of appetite, which can greatly affect daily life if left untreated.
Medical professionals also warn that stress has become a major contributing factor, with people under prolonged stress facing a higher risk of developing gastritis.
Health authorities advise the public to avoid carbonated drinks, smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, noting that these habits can lead not only to gastritis but also to fatty liver disease.
Specialists further highlight risk factors linked to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), including high-fat and fried foods, stress, alcohol use, smoking and certain medications.
Experts urge those experiencing persistent symptoms to seek early medical advice to prevent complications and ensure timely treatment.
