
The National People’s Power (NPP) emerged as the frontrunner in the 2025 Local Government Elections, securing 4,503,930 votes (43.26%) and winning 3,927 seats across Sri Lanka.
The NPP leads in 266 local councils, including 23 Municipal Councils, 26 Urban Councils, and 217 Pradeshiya Sabhas.
The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) came second with 2,258,480 votes (21.69%) and 1,767 seats, leading in 13 councils.
The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) garnered 954,517 votes (9.17%) and won 742 seats, but failed to lead in any local council.
The United National Party (UNP) secured 381 seats from 488,406 votes (4.69%), also without leading any council.
The Illankai Tamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK) won 377 seats with 307,657 votes (2.96%) and leads in 37 councils, including 3 Municipal Councils.
The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) secured 116 seats and leads in 5 councils, while the People’s Alliance and Sarvajana Balaya won 300 and 226 seats respectively.
