2025 budget aims to engage all in economic growth – president

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced that the 2025 Budget will aim to involve every segment of the population in the nation’s economic processes.

During a preliminary meeting at the Presidential Secretariat with Finance Ministry officials, the President stressed the importance of building an efficient and productive economic system.

Key discussions highlighted the need to strengthen public transportation and ensure decentralized funds allocated to MPs are used for productive, national projects.

The President emphasized government intervention to enhance public transportation by providing necessary facilities.

Attention was drawn to mismanagement of decentralized funds by previous administrations, with a call for better resource allocation for national priorities.

The discussion also covered regulating rice stocks, ensuring loans to rice millers are repaid within a year, and promoting efficient agricultural processes.

The President underscored the importance of extending urban-centered economic benefits to grassroots levels, advocating for equitable economic distribution across provinces.

He pointed out flaws in welfare distribution mechanisms, urging timely identification of deserving communities and faster delivery of aid.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including the Minister of Labour, the Secretary to the President, the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, and others.
