Nuriya Police have launched an investigation into the alleged assault and murder of a 14-year-old boy residing in Part 02 of Nuriyawatta, within the Nooriya Police Division.
The Nuriya Police Station received a tip-off last night (2nd of January 2026) reporting that the child was being assaulted. Police immediately rushed to the scene and found the boy lying near a house.
The child was taken to Nuriya Hospital, where the medical officer confirmed that he had already died. As the death is considered suspicious, the body has been transferred to the Avissawella Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.
The boy’s father has been arrested by Nooriya Police on suspicion of involvement in the death.
