13 Dead as navy speedboat collides with ferry in India

A tragic collision occurred on Wednesday afternoon when a naval speedboat, conducting engine trials, crashed into the Neel Kamal passenger ferry near Butcher Island, Mumbai.

The impact of the crash led to the capsizing of the boat, resulting in the deaths of 13 people, including an Indian Navy officer and two naval employees.

The Neel Kamal ferry was transporting over 100 passengers from the Gateway of India to Elephanta Island at the time of the accident.

The ferry had departed at 3:15 pm, and the crash occurred around 3:55 pm, leaving many passengers stranded in the water.

The ferry was carrying numerous out-of-town visitors, including some who were in Mumbai for the first time.
Swift rescue efforts were launched by personnel from the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) and several private vessels, with the Navy, Coast Guard, and Marine Police joining the operation.
