A total of 10 Tamil Nadu fishermen were arrested this morning (January 13) for poaching in Sri Lankan waters.
The Sri Lanka Navy also took the vessel carrying the fishermen into custody off the coast of Delft Island.
The fishermen were charged with violating Sri Lanka’s maritime boundaries and were taken to the Karainagar Naval Camp.
Both the arrested fishermen and their vessel are to be handed over to the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, after which they will be produced in court.
